I got the opportunity to job shadow Michael Diaz who is a welder/business owner of Stainless Work Specialties in Tulare. This job shadow took place on March 5, 2016 and I spent about three to four hours observing all of the duties he has in a day's work. The reason why I chose to job shadow a welder is because I found the job interesting and it is well paid. Once I found out that this career is a good paying job I felt that I needed to look more into it.
Throughout the day I was there I watched how all of the employee's worked and also visited Mr. Diaz’s office to get a visual of the business owning side of his job as well. Unfortunately, he isn’t in the factory as much as a regular employee so we sat a lot in his office and I got to watch how he places the orders for all of the metal the business needs and what kind of things they have to make as well. It was really interesting to watch Mr. Diaz do his job because it made me realize how complicated it can be to make sure all of the materials are there for the employee’s to get their job done. Observing his job also showed me how focus one has to be to maintain this job not only as a welder but as a business owner too.
After getting the chance to observe this occupation I’m still debating on if this is the career I would like to pursue in my future. This is because I haven’t found the love and passion in what I want to do in my life just system.
